GRAND CHAMPION!!! CONGRATULATIONS!

On Saturday I enjoyed a few Corona’s, a half-dozen authentic tacos (the little ones with the onion and cilantro) and watched The Matador. The film’s two main characters Julian (Pierce Bronsan) and Danny (Greg Kinnear) both sport moustaches through most of the movie. Hit the jump for the review.

Julian is a lonely hitman who is losing his edge, and needs a friend. Danny is a normal guy with bad luck who happens to be in Mexico for business.

Describing the plot is sort of interesting because it doesn’t seem like a lot goes down. But basically, Julian and Danny hit it off in Mexico and hang out a lot. They do manly things together like goto bull fights and drink margaritas. Then the movie flashes forward six months and Danny is doing a lot better in life, he made a big sale in Mexico that panned out well for him and his wife, but Julian has been messing up hits and drinking and banging hookers more than usual.

Julian is going to get bumped off for messing up his assassinations unless he can successfully complete one more important job. But he needs help to do the hit, thats where his buddy Danny comes in. The moustached duo work as a team to get the final hit done and save Julian’s life.

This movie is pretty damn funny. Pierce Brosnan as a brash, alcoholic, whore-mongering assassin is reason enough to watch the movie. Greg Kinnear does a good job being a big pussy, in the sense that he is getting his ass handed to him at home and at work. Nothing goes his way and he is having a rough time, its funny through the magical power of schadenfreude.

Luckily, I’ve found my favorite part of the movie in a clip on youtube. This is Pierce Brosnan’s character Julian, walking through the hotel after a long night of binge drinking. Enjoy!

I would have to give this movie 3.5 / 5 Brash Moustaches.

10. Prince & Little Richard

These guys tie for #10. Although their music is bold and funky, their moustaches however are not. The drawn on pencil look just never works for anyone, the person with it and the people who have to see it as you accept your award for girly moustaches.

8. Jimi Hendrix

If this Top 10 was based on sheer coolness, this guy would be #1, but it’s a moustache top 10. Jimi rocked the moustache, but it never reach its full potential, unfortunately just like his career. He created brilliant music and left behind a rock legacy. I always wonder what he would have accomplished.

7. Stevie Wonder

Stevie is awesome!! In his youth he had a more traditional moustache. It seems to have grown into some sort of mangina on his face. If you notice it goes all the way around his mouth, its a mouth-stache….impressive!

6. The Beatles

3 outta 4….thats pretty good stacheness. The Beatles became famous with their boyish looks and Rock & Roll devil music that swooned all the ladies with some sort of voodoo by Lucifer himself. Later on, after becoming apemen, walruses, and riding a yellow submarine, they became moustached crazies on all sorts of trips! I AM THE APEMAN!

5. Carlos Santana

Although Santana did that horrible song with Rob Thomas ( <— I would punch him in the neck) and pretty much that whole album sucked (”Supernatural”), he redeems himself with his boxcar of a moustache. Let’s not forget, before he decided to join the mainstream crap, he gave us great music.

4. John Oates

Without no John there is no Hall & Oates, and I can’t go far that, noooohhoohh, no can do. The masterminds behind Maneater, Kiss On My List, Private Eyes, I Can’t Go For That….the list just goes on. If you don’t have this CD, get it.

3. Slick Rick

Not only has Slick Rick maintained a moustache for as long as I’ve known, he has an eye-patch to boot, thats just completely awesome. This guy is a real gansta, he raps about killing and then goes to jail for it, self-incriminating evidence style. Not only did he go to jail, he rapped on a CD from jail!! You don’t see any of these MTV Cribs rappers actually representing anything they rap about. Slick ain’t about no facade.

2. Freddie Mercury

Wow, this picture is priceless. If you asked someone to name a musician with a moustache, I’m sure Freddie or “the lead singer of Queen” would be a popular answer. It’s almost as if there is a little trademark symbol next to it.

and…..drumroll

1. Frank Zappa

Just look at him, tending to his moustache with care. Always offensively bold, always presumptuously daring. Frank Zappa knew no bounds, and he rocked, while rocking the moustache! Tally Ho!

Update: Alternatively, we design our own shirt to give to the winner. Only time will tell. Either way, its gonna be a bitchin’ shirt for the winner.

5. Michael Jordan

MJ gets to be on the list because he’s the best ever to play the game, and he has a moustache. It’s an epic moustache purely by association of who its on.

4. Adam Morrison

This guy looks like a sloppy bitch. He is rocking that look as hard as he can, so he gets points for that. He has sort of a ratty-looking Mexican-esque moustache. It appears as if he can’t grow a real burly thick moustache, but he is doing the best that he can. Either way, here is more proof that chicks dig the ’stache.

3. Dick Butkus

This guy means business. You see him pointing at you? He’s saying, “You look at me the wrong way nancy-boy and I will break your neck like a twig.” That’s cause Dick Butkus doesn’t fuck around. Because of his name is painfully obvious to make fun of, he had to overcompensate when growing up. As such, he is ten times as manly as you or I.

2. Hulk Hogan

I know what you are thinking, “How did an ugly son-of-a-bitch like Hulk Hogan have a hot daughter?” It’s really an amazing tribute to the mysterious powers of the moustache. I heard a rumor that his moustache is not made of normal hair, but thousands of steel fibers. No one knows for sure though, everyone who has gotten close enough to find out has been beaten into a lumpy paste.

1. Rollie Fingers

I’m pretty sure that none of you have heard of Rollie Fingers, or seen a moustache as grand as his. He single-handedly brought back the Italian loopy moustache style. He didn’t care when people tried to make fun of it, because he knew that he had the most bad-ass moustache of any athlete ever to play a game.

Poker, it is one of the greatest games played by moustached men everywhere. Having a moustache while playing poker can help disguise your next move during the game, distract non-moustached people of our sheer awesomeness of our ’stashes, and it also appeals to the ladies

While playing poker at one of the greatest tournaments in the world: The Moustache Poker Finals. I finally was dealt the greatest hand, the royal flush. But when looking closer at my cards, I noticed that one of the cards looked kinda odd. One of the kings in the suites is a traitor to the moustache world, the King of Hearts… HE DOES NOT HAVE A MOUSTASHE!

I thought maybe that this have been a mistake, a misprint, or a worn card. I went though other decks I had around the house, and they all have the same thing. What kind of mockery is this?!? Am I delusional?!! This must be some kind of conspiracy by the Anti-Moustashe League? Did the card companies go into association with the straight razor companies? We need to investigate further to find out the bottom of this conundrum.

What do you quys think is the cause of these shenanigans?

First and foremost Emiliano Zapata. This guy was a force to be reckoned with. No need to go into the history here, but this guy was hardcore. Bandit or revolutionary? His name lives on!

Danny Trejo is a man and a moustache of true honor. This man overcame a troubled street life of drugs and prison sentences, to portraying a troubled street life of drugs and prison sentences as a Hollywood actor. I best remember his role as Johhny 23 in Con Air, man was he brutal. A great humanitarian off screen, but man is this guy scary on film! Keep representing the stache, hermano!

Richard Anthony Marin also known as “Cheech Marin” is one of the best examples of a Mexican American rocking the stache like its going outta style. The brashness of his stache knows no bounds. Best known for his role in the Cheech and Chong movies which included many comedic albums and soundtracks, he has continued to make a career for himself starring in feature films, television (Lost, apparently a good show?), and video games (GTA: San Andreas!). This guy also won celebrity Jeopardy! We salute you Cheech, and your moustache. Que Bueno!

ZORRO! ZORRO!

ohh, and Frida Kahlo gets and honorable mention. That lady had a stache for sure, not a very solid one, but she represented regardless!
